Annual Seed Swap

When

02/10/2024

Event Type

Sallie Logan Library will be at this event held by Carbondale Food Autonomy and Food Works of Southern Illinois!

Here’s what they have planned:

SAVE THE DATE! This year’s Annual Seed Swap is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th, from 10a-1p at the Carbondale Community Farmers Market @carbondalemarket located at the University Mall. This completely FREE event in partnership with @foodworksofsouthernillinois will have a HUGE assortment (vegetables, pollinators/flowers, herbs) both saved meticulously by gardeners and generously donated from other sources. We encourage you to bring your own surplus seed to share, or just come to get what you need for the 2024 season!

Did you know that Carbondale’s Annual Seed Swap was started over a decade ago by our wonderful friend @understorykitchen? What began as a sharing opportunity amongst a dozen or so friends has developed into one of our largest and most popular annual events, boasting over 400 participants and an estimated 5,000 seeds shared last year alone! It’s incredible to see the trajectory of growth as we continue to build relationships with our neighbors over the messaging of Food Autonomy.

Any leftover seed will be planted in our collaborative spaces, like @washingtonstreetgarden, and also to replenish stock at our local seed libraries housed at @carbondalepubliclibrary and @sallieloganlibrary, so if you miss this event you’ll still have an opportunity!

See you there!

Huge thanks to @tiqqveer for her creativity in this flyer 🥰
